Samsung says it's sold 1 million Galaxy Fold phones

Samsung hasn't said much about the Galaxy Fold ever since it launched at the end of September, but today we're getting a bit of info on exactly how well the foldable phone has been selling.

There have been one million Galaxy Fold units sold to date, Samsung Electronics President Young Sohn revealed today. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt in Berlin, Sohn was talking about how Samsung releases products to get feedback on them and said, "And I think that the point is, we're selling [a] million of these products."

"There's a million people that want to use this product at $2,000," Sohn added.

Being one of the first foldable display smartphones on the market and sporting a $2,000 price tag makes the Samsung Galaxy Fold a tough sell for most consumers. There will always be early adopters willing to take a chance on new products like the Galaxy Fold, though, and so far it sounds like there's been a million people willing to buy a Galaxy Fold despite its price tag and its display issues earlier this year. While the Galaxy Fold is unlikely to be a huge seller for Samsung, these sales numbers could give it more confidence to push forward with foldable display devices in the future.

UPDATE: Samsung now says that it has not sold 1 million Galaxy Folds. Speaking to Yonhap News Agency, a Samsung spokesperson explained that Young Sohn may have been confused with Samsung's initial Galaxy Fold sales target for the year.
