A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Google was prepping a new laptop called the Pixelbook Go that would debut at the company's October 15th event. Much like the Pixel 4, though, the Pixelbook Go has now leaked out extensively before that event.
A new leak gives us a clear, high-quality look at the Pixelbook Go in a hands-on video and in a multitude of photos. The folks at 9to5Google got to spend a little time with Google's new Pixelbook and they came away impressed with the keyboard, saying it's as good or better than the first Pixelbook. The trackpad is described as "sufficiently responsive and clicky," and the front-facing speakers sound "great".
When it comes to the overall design, the Pixelbook Go has a ribbed bottom that looks a bit like a washboard. This should help give it some grip, both in your hand and on surfaces that you're using it. This "Not Pink" model is definitely pink on the bottom, but the top case is more subdued and has a matte finish.
There's a USB-C port on the left side of the Pixelbook Go along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a charged LED, and over on the right side is another USB-C port. Inside is the aforementioned keyboard, trackpad, and stereo speakers, and above the display is a 2MP camera and a pair of microphones for using your voice to summon the Google Assistant.
The Pixelbook Go is expected to be offered in several variations. Google will reportedly offer Intel Core m3, i5, and i7 processors, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB/256GB of storage, a 13.3-inch touchscreen in Full HD or 4K "Molecular Display" resolutions, a Titan C security chip, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and "Just Black" and "Not Pink" color options.
Last year's Pixel Slate never really got much love from reviewers or consumers, and so there will probably be lots of folks happy to see Google returning to a traditional laptop form factor. Based on this early hands-on, the Pixelbook Go sounds like it could be an impressive device, offering a solid keyboard, quality-sounding speakers, and a design that's definitely "Google".
There's no word yet on how much the Pixelbook Go might cost, but the good news is that Google's event is just five days away, so it won't be long before that info is spilled.
