This year we've seen the big four U.S. carriers launch their 5G networks, and now U.S. Cellular has confirmed that it's got 5G coverage coming soon, too.
U.S. Cellular has announced that it'll begin deploying 5G in the first quarter of 2020. This will be the first phase of a multi-year network expansion for 5G, says U.S. Cellular, and the 5G coverage will utilize the carrier's 600MHz spectrum.
Iowa and Wisconsin will be the first two states to get U.S. Cellular 5G. Specifically, customers in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, and Waterloo, IA, as well as folks in Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Racine, WI.
According to U.S. Cellular, subscribers with 4G devices in those two states will begin to see increased network quality as the carrier updates its cell towers with new tech that also supports 5G.
No 5G smartphones have been announced by U.S. Cellular quite yet, but it does promise that it's building a portfolio of 5G phones, connected devices, and Internet of Things offerings thatt'll be available throughout 2020.
We're still a few months out from U.S. Cellular's 5G network going live, but it's good to get the carrier's plans for 5G now. While 5G is still very much in early days, there are a lot of consumers who are interested in 5G and looking forward to getting onto a 5G network, and so there are likely some U.S. Cellular customers out there who are glad to know that their carrier is launching 5G soon.
