Pixel 4 specs leak hints at 6GB of RAM and 90Hz 'Smooth Display'

Today may be Galaxy Note 10 Day, but the rumor mill is producing some interesting info on another upcoming Android flagship.

New spec details for the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have leaked out. According to a report from 9to5Google, the Pixel 4 will have a 5.7-inch display while the Pixel 4 XL will boast a 6.3-inch screen. Both sizes are larger than the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, which have 5.5-inch and 6.3-inch displays, respectively.

Both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL displays are expected to be of the OLED variety, though the Pixel 4 will have a Full HD+ resolution while the Pixel 4 XL will have a higher-res Quad HD+ screen. Both screens are also expected to have a 90Hz refresh rate that Google will call "Smooth Display".

Around back, both Pixel 4 models will reportedly have a 12MP camera with phase detection autofocus and a 16MP telephoto camera. Interestingly, Google is said to be developing a "DSLR-like attachment" for the Pixel 4 phones that could be sold as an accessory if you want to get more serious about your mobile photography.

The leaked spec list for the Pixel 4 phones continues with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 64GB and 128GB storage options, and 6GB of RAM. The smaller Pixel 4 will reportedly have a 2800mAh battery while the larger Pixel 4 XL will get a 3700mAh battery. That Pixel 4 battery is slightly smaller than the 2915mAh battery in the Pixel 3, but the Pixel 4 XL is getting a bigger battery than the 3430mAh battery found in its predecessor.

Rounding things out are stereo speakers, a Titan M security module like in the Pixel 3, and three years of Android updates.

While some of these leaked Pixel 4 feature are what we expected, like the Snapdragon 855, there is a bit to get excited about here. The move to 6GB of RAM is overdue, and while it's not as much as some other Android flagships, it's better than the 4GB that's been in all other Pixel phones. The 90Hz displays are worth looking forward to as well, as they'll help everything on screen appear to move more smoothly.

Both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are expected to make their official debut in October, just like previous Pixel phones. That might be disappointing for those who were hoping for an earlier announcement following Google's recent confirmation of the Pixel 4, but if the rumor mill is anything like it was with the Pixel 3, we'll see plenty of the Pixel 4 in the time between now and October.
