Google says Pixel 3 performance improvements coming, Digital Wellbeing not causing slowdown

Some Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners have been having performance issues with their phones, and earlier this month, word began spreading that some people were getting better performance from their Pixel after turning off Google's Digital Wellbeing feature. Now a Googler has officially chimed in.

In a comment on Reddit, Google's official PixelCommunity account says that they've "conducted a thorough analysis" on the Pixel 3 performance issues based on bug reports and internal testing. The result? Google says that it's found "no performance issues associated with the Digital Wellbeing app on Pixel."

Instead, Google claims that it's found changes unrelated to the bug reports for improving performance and that it's in the process of pushing the changes out to Pixel phones.

Here's Google's full comment on the matter:

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention and sharing bug reports with us. We’re committed to continually improving Pixel based on user feedback.

"We conducted a thorough analysis based on the bug reports and internal testing, and have found no performance issues associated with the Digital Wellbeing app on Pixel. During the investigation, we identified changes unrelated to the bug reports for improving performance, and we are in the process of rolling out those changes to make your Pixel device better. As always if you experience issues related to performance or any other aspect of Pixel, please review the troubleshooting steps in our online support tool or reach out to customer service."

Because some Pixel 3 owners have said that they felt the performance of their phone get better after disabling Digital Wellbeing, it'll be interesting to see what happens when they get this impending update and re-enable Digital Wellbeing. It can be a handy feature to have, letting you see how you're using your phone, setting limits on app usage, and help you reduce distractions when you want to disconnect, so many Pixel 3 owners would probably like it to have it enabled if they can.

Have you Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners had performance problems that were solved by disabling Digital Wellbeing?
