It wasn't too long ago that a lot of Pixel smartphone owners, regardless of model, were complaining that their handsets were getting pretty slugging in some areas. Google, for its part, did seem to acknowledge the issue pretty quickly and send a software update soon after, which hopefully fixed the problem for most. Unfortunately, I know a few people who are still suffering some issues with their handsets, and all of them own Pixel 3 devices.
It's not a great look to have your newest flagship smartphones already starting to get a bit rough around the edges. But I'm not actually curious about the Pixel 3 and its performance at the moment. Instead, I want to look at a device that's a bit older, one that Google actually just stopped selling directly from its own online store.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Now, it's safe to say that these two devices are top-tier, high-end handsets. While the display sizes are different, and the Pixel 2 XL suffered from some serious screen problems (which were fixed, for most), the two devices are meant to be flagships meant to lead the Android pack. (Whether or not Google actually succeeds at this anymore, in light of so much competition, is really up to the individual.)
It's these slightly older devices that I'm curious about. Specifically, if you're using a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL out there in the wild on a daily basis, how is your performance holding up these days? Device responsiveness is one of the most important aspects of a smartphone. When it lags it can drastically reduce the core functionality, and, perhaps even worse, just make the phone not fun to use. When your phone makes it hard to do everyday tasks, well, it can be a real drag.
The Pixel 2 lineup is just over a year old now, which means it should be working fine. If we're seriously worried about our phones becoming sluggish messes just over a year after launch in 2019, that's no good. And while issues can definitely crop up well after launch, the slow performance issue appeared to be widespread. So, if you've recently updated your Pixel 2/2 XL, are you still experiencing any issues at all?
