We've seen the Google Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite a few times by now and we've gotten wind of some of their specs. One of the major pieces of info that's eluded us so far are their official names, but now we may have those details as well.
The oft-leaked "Lite" Pixel phones may launch as the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. The name "Pixel 3a XL" was discovered by XDA-Developers inside the code of the Camera app in the new Android Q beta alongside existing models like the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL. That suggests that Google is prepping "Pixel 3a XL" and "Pixel 3a" models.
Also found in the code of Android Q are references to "sargo" and "bonito", which are thought to be the codenames of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.
As a refresher, rumors have said that the Pixel 3a will have a 5.56-inch 2280x1080 display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 2915mAh battery, and a Snapdragon 670 processor, down from the Snapdragon 845 in the standard Pixel 3. The Pixel 3a is expected to have the same 12MP rear camera as the Pixel 3, though, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is missing from the Pixel 3.
Meanwhile, rumors have suggested that the Pixel 3a XL will have a 6-inch FHD+ screen and possibly a Snapdragon 710 processor along with its own 3.5mm headphone jack.
Rumors have said that these devices could launch at Verizon this spring. There haven't been any announcements from Google or Verizon about the Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL, but both devices did recently clear the FCC, bringing them one step closer to launch in the U.S.
