Motorola's foldable RAZR design may have been revealed by patent filing

Less than a week after we got word that Motorola may be working on a new smartphone with a foldable screen and the RAZR name, we may be getting an early look at the device.

A patent filing with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) contains images that show a new Motorola foldable device. The basic design is similar to the original RAZR flip phone, complete with a thick chin that you talk into. Rather than a small display up top and a keypad below, though, the inside of this device appears to hold one large display. There appears to be a smaller display on the outside of the phone, too.

The patent filing belongs to Motorola, and it was submitted in mid-December 2018. Unfortunately, it doesn't contain any details about this upcoming phone's specs, release date, price, or anything like that.

It's rumored that Motorola parent company Lenovo is partnering with Verizon to release this new RAZR as soon as February. As with other upcoming foldable phones, this RAZR isn't expected to be cheap, with a price tag that could reportedly be $1,500.

This possible RAZR design is interesting, as its foldable screen looks more tall and long when unfolded than the foldable Infinity Flex display that Samsung recently showed. The design is reminiscent of the original RAZR flip phone, much more so than the DROID RAZR's that Moto and Verizon released years ago. If this is Motorola's foldable RAZR, the design could make a lot of folks nostalgic and get them interested, but the rumored $1,500 price tag could be tough for some folks to swallow.
