Lasso is a new app from Facebook that's taking on TikTok

We recently learned that a Vine co-founder is working on a new short video app that could follow up on Vine and take on TikTok, but before that app comes to market, Facebook has unleashed a short video app of its own.

Lasso is now available on Android and iOS. With this app, you can record short videos with filters, effects, text on video tools, and more. There are video editing tools built-in, too, and you can add hashtags to see what's popular and get your own video trending.

The app also has a large music library, letting you add tunes to your video. "Lasso's music library is one of the biggest," the app's description says. "From trending pop hits to vintage classics, you'll find whatever song you need to take your videos to the next level."

Lasso looks like Facebook's answer to TikTok, an app that's grown in popularity lately. With TikTok, users record videos that are 15 seconds in length, and many clips include music that users can dance or lip sync to. You can using editing tools to trim, cut, merge, and duplicate clips, add filters and emoji stickers, and more. Lasso appears to be going after the same fun vibe, but it remains to be seen if the app will gain quite the same following as TikTok.
