Snapdragon 675 official with gaming and camera improvements

Qualcomm today took the wraps off of its latest mid-range mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 675.

The Snapdragon 675 includes the Kryo 460, an octa-core CPU that Qualcomm touts offers a 20 percent performance improvement over its predecessor. Qualcomm says it's been working with game developers to ensure that the SD675 offers improved gaming performance, too, with game engines like Unity and Unreal getting optimizations.

There are some camera-specific improvements in the SD675, too. The chipset supports a triple camera configuration in the front or back that includes features like 3D face unlock portrait mode, telephoto (up to 5x zoom), wide angle, and super wide angle. Also included is support for HD slow-mo video capture at up to 480fps, which is the first time such a feature has been found in a 600 series chipset.

Qualcomm has made some AI-focused improvements with the Snapdragon 675 as well. These include up to 50 percent improvements in AI applications so that devices can better learn and adapt to a user's voice and optimize battery life. Other AI features supported by the SD675 include scene and object detection, portrait relighting, face unlock, payment security, and translation.

Other notable features of the Snapdragon 675 include an X12 modem that supports download speeds up to 600Mbps and 3x carrier aggregation, Quick Charge 4+ that'll charge you phone from 0 to 50 percent in 15 minutes, and both the Qualcomm Aqstic and aptX audio tech.

The Snapdragon 675 is expected to begin appearing in consumer devices starting in Q1 2019.
