OnePlus 6T confirmed to include in-display fingerprint reader

OnePlus has confirmed one of the features of its upcoming OnePlus 6T flagship.

The OnePlus 6T will include an in-display fingerprint reader, the company confirmed to CNET. "We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action," OnePlus explained. "By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them."

You can see a screenshot of the OnePlus 6T lock screen above. Near the bottom of the display is a fingerprint icon, letting you know where to place your finger to unlock the phone.

OnePlus also revealed today that it had planned to add an in-display fingerprint reader to last year's OnePlus 5T, but that the tech wasn't mature enough to offer a fast and smooth user experience.

In-display fingerprint readers haven't been widely adopted quite yet, having only launched on a handful of phones from companies like Vivo and Huawei. Now we know that another major smartphone maker will adopt the technology. It'll be interesting to see how well the tech works for unlocking the OnePlus 6T several times a day, but obviously OnePlus is confident that it'll work well enough to include it in its next high-profile smartphone.
