Stop me if you've heard this one before: T-Mobile and Sprint are in merger negotiations.
Yes, according to new reports, T-Mobile and Sprint have restarted merger talks. Sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal say that the discussions are preliminary and that it's possible that no deal will be reached.
A report from Bloomberg adds that executives from SoftBank, Sprint's largest shareholder, and Sprint itself have talked with T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom about a potential deal. Separately, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Hoettges have told investors that they'd be open to merger talks.
This is the third time in four years that T-Mobile and Sprint have been involved in merger talks. The two reportedly came close to a deal last year before deciding to go their own ways, so it's possible that a deal could happen this time around. While T-Mobile has been doing pretty well for itself in recent years, the company would probably like to add to its spectrum portfolio with the airwaves that are owned by Sprint.
