Android Wear 2.9 to bring new unread notification indicator

One week after Android Wear 2.8 began rolling out, details on the next major update for Google's wearable platform have started trickling out.

In a post on the Android Developers Blog, Google has revealed that Android Wear 2.9 will default to showing a dot at the bottom of the Android Wear display to indicate if there are unread notifications. The default color is white, but watch face developers can change the ring around the dot to an accent color of their choice.

If the dot doesn't fit with the rest of the watch face, devs can switch it off and choose another notification style. The other options for displaying notifications include displaying the number of unread notifications in the system tray or getting the number of unread notifications and displaying the number in a way that fits the watch face's style.

Also coming with Android Wear 2.9 are improvements to the ComplicationDrawable class. These include permission handling and a drawable callback. You can read more about these enhancements at the link below.
