LG will rebrand its G series of smartphones

Many people have been expecting an LG G7 at Mobile World Congress next month, but it looks like that device may not exist.

LG is planning to rebrand is G series of flagship Android smartphones. That's according to an LG official who explained that rebranding is nothing new, pointing to Apple and Samsung as examples of companies that've rebranded phones in the past.

“Rebranding flagship models is nothing new, and Samsung and Apple have done so for their own flagships,” an LG official said to The Investor.

The LG official went on to say that a new name for its flagship series of smartphones hasn't been decided. It's possible that the phones could be numbered wit ha two-digit number, said the official, or perhaps the new flagship will get a new name altogether.

The LG G6 received some praise for being a solid flagship smartphone when it was released last year, but LG still hasn't managed to enjoy the same popularity as some of its competitors, like Samsung. A new name could help stir up some more excitement for LG's next flagship, but we'll have to wait for the actual device to launch before we know for sure what kind of impact it'll have.
