Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 now available for pre-order, launching later this month

If you prefer to keep you carrier and your smartphone purchase separate, Samsung’s got some news for you.

The unlocked versions of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are now available for pre-order. You can get both models from Samsung and Best Buy, with the unlocked GS8 priced at $724.99 and the unlocked GS8+ at $824.99.

You’ve also got the option of buying with 24-month installments from Samsung, at $30.21 per month for the GS8 and $34.38 per month for the GS8+. Best Buy will offer its own 24-month financing for customers that use a My Best Buy Credit Card.

Both the unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ will launch on May 31.

These unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ models will work on all major US carriers. Samsung touts that they come with fewer preloaded apps and a standard US limited warranty.

Customers that buy the unlocked S8 or S8+ can also get Samsung’s free Entertainment Kit, which includes a Clear View Standing Case, 64GB microSD card, and six months of Netflix.

While many folks buy their phones from their carrier, some people prefer to buy unlocked. Not only does it give them the freedom to switch carriers whenever they’d like, but unlocked devices typically come with fewer preinstalled apps since there’s no carrier to add their apps to the device. Unlocked phones can sometimes get updates faster than carrier-branded models, but as we recently saw with the unlocked Galaxy S7, that’s not always the case.

Now that they’re available for pre-order and launching soon, are you going to buy an unlocked Galaxy S8 or S8+?
