Gboard for Android update adds emoji suggestions, instant translation, and more

Using Gboard for Android? If so, a new update is coming your way.

Google today announced “a bunch of fresh new features” for Gboard for Android. To help you be more trendy in your messages, Gboard will now show you GIF and emoji suggestions as you type. You can use this feature to share GIFs in supported apps like Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Hangouts, and Allo.

Voice typing is getting an update, too, with a new interface to make it easier to switch back to normal typing. And speaking of interfaces, you can now choose scenic views to change the look of your Gboard by going into the Gboard settings and selecting theme. Google plans to add more themes in the future.

Another new feature being added is support for web, GIF, and emoji search features in right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew.

The final, and perhaps the neatest, new feature of today’s update is in-line translation with Gboard. With this feature, you can tap the Translate icon in the quick feature menu and Google Translate will instantly translate words as you type them.

This updated version of Gboard for Android is now rolling out. It’s a pretty big update for Google’s Android keyboard, making it easier to talk in a different language whether that’s emoji or French.
