Samsung intros new controller for Gear VR headset

Along with its new Galaxy Tab S3, Samsung today announced a new Gear VR bundle.

The Samsung Gear VR now includes a wireless controller. The one-hand controller has a touchpad for quicker selection and integration in apps, a trigger for better gaming experiences, and a set of Home, Volume, and Back keys so that you can easily access them at any time. There’s a wrist strap on there, too, to prevent the controller from flying out of your hand during an intense gaming session.

The controller runs on AAA batteries.

As for the Gear VR headset itself, it appears to be the same one that Samsung debuted last August. It’s got 42mm lenses with a 101-degree field of view, advanced distortion correction to combat motion sickness, and support for both microUSB and USB Type-C.

This Gear VR headset is compatible with the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 edge, and galaxy S6.

The addition of a controller is big for the Gear VR. Not only does it enable a much-improved gaming experience, but it gives you access to the Home button, touchpad, and more without having to constantly reach up to your head. If you’ve got a compatible device and an interest in VR, this Gear VR bundle seems like it’s worth keeping an eye out for.
