Moto M debuts in China with 5.5-inch display, 16-megapixel camera

Motorola’s got a new handset, and as expected, it’s the Moto M.

The Moto M runs Android 6.0.1 on a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display. It’s packing a 16-megapixel camera on its backside with phase detection autofocus and a dual LED flash, and below that camera sits a fingerprint reader. Around front there’s an 8-megapixel camera.

Powering the Moto M is a combination of an octa-core MediaTek Helio P15 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 3,050mAh battery with fast charge support. There’s 32GB of storage included in the Moto M’s metal shell, and there’s also dual SIM slots, one of which can double as a microSD card if you’d like more storage. The Moto M also features a splash-resistant coating.

The Moto M will launch in China at a price of ¥1999, or $294 USD. There’s no word on when or if the Moto M will make its way to other parts of the globe.

The newest member of the Moto family looks like a respectable handset, offering higher-end specs with a metal body. It’s also considerably cheaper than the Moto Z and Moto Z Play, which sell for ¥4399 ($648 USD) and ¥3299 ($486 USD) in China. It’d be nice to see the Moto M hit other regions around the world to give consumers a more affordable Moto handset, but for now most of us will have to ogle images of the Moto M online and wait to see if it does roll out globally.
