Samsung said to have suspended Galaxy Note 7 production

Following multiple reports of replacement Galaxy Note 7s catching fire and two major US carriers halting sales, Samsung has stopped production of its latest flagship smartphone.

Samsung has temporarily halted production of the Galaxy Note 7, an official at a Samsung supplier has told Yonhap News Agency. The halt in production is being made in cooperation with regulators from South Korea, the US, and China, this official added.

Over the past week, five different reports have said that replacement Galaxy Note 7s have caught fire in the US. These devices were supposed to be safe units that came after Samsung’s original Note 7 recall, but the owners say that their devices caught fire, not unlike several of the recalled units. It remains to be seen if Samsung will recall its “safe” Note 7 units, too, but it makes sense for Samsung to halt production following the news of replacement Note 7s catching fire so that it can investigate the matter further.
