There have been a lot of leaks in recent weeks that’ve shed light on the 2016 Nexus phones. Thanks to new FCC filings, some of that info has basically been confirmed.
Two FCC filings that likely belong to the HTC-made Sailfish and Marlin have been discovered. The documents seemingly confirm that HTC is making this year’s Nexus phones, reveal their model numbers, and detail their wireless support.
First up, the Draft User Manual section in both filings contain a letter from HTC Project Manager Sean Shih. The letters explain that the final user manuals for the devices will be made publicly available when the products are commercially released, and that those manuals will be “available on Google’s website (http://support.google.com/nexus).”
Moving on, both SAR Reports confirm that these devices are smartphones and detail their wireless capabilities. The two phones support the bands used by the four major U.S. carriers:
The FCC filings also share the model numbers for the two handsets, which are G-2PW2100 and G-2PW4100. It’s unclear which is Sailfish and which is Marlin, but it’s possible that Sailfish is G-2PW2100 and Marlin is G-2PW4100 because Marlin is the slightly higher-end model.
There’s still no word on when the Sailfish and Marlin might launch, but now that they’ve cleared the FCC, they’re at least one step closer to hitting Google’s store and our hands.
