Samsung intros Galaxy J2 (2016) with Smart Glow notifications, J Max with 7-inch display

After leaking out yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016) has made its official debut along with another unique Android phone.

As expected, the Galaxy J2 (2016) features a notification light around its rear camera. Called Smart Glow, this squircle light can alert you to incoming notifications, calls, and messages. You can set up to four priority contact or app alerts and use the RBG slider to customize the color for each. Smart Glow can also alert you when your battery, data, or storage is low, and it works as a selfie assist light, too.

In terms of raw specs, the Galaxy J2 (2016) is a fairly low- to mid-range phone. It runs Android 6.0 on a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, is powered by a combination of a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and a 2600mAh battery, and it includes 8GB of storage that you can add to using a microSD card. Also included is an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Also announced today is the Samsung Galaxy J Max. Like the Galaxy J2 (2016), the J Max has one highlight feature to help it stand out, and that is its screen. The Galaxy J Max features a 7-inch display, which is really large even compared to today’s popular phablet smartphones like the Galaxy Note 5 (5.7-inch screen) and the iPhone 6s Plus (5.5-inch display). The J Max’s 7-inch screen isn’t quite as high-res as those other displays, though, offering a resolution of 1280x800.

Inside of the Galaxy J Max’s gigantic shell is a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot for adding more storage, and a 4000mAh battery to power the whole package. The J Max also offers an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, and Android 5.1 Lollipop.

What do you think of Samsung’s two new Android phones? Does either the Galaxy J2 (2016)’s Smart Glow light or the Galaxy J Max’s 7-inch display interest you?
