Design of HTC Sailfish and Marlin Nexus phones shown in leaked render

After specs for both of HTC’s upcoming Nexus phones — Sailfish and Marlin — leaked out, a new leak has surfaced that claims to show us what both phones will look like.

The Sailfish and Marlin are expected to share many of the same features, with the two big differences being the displays and batteries, and today’s leak — which is a recreation based on info from an Android Police source — suggests that their designs will be largely the same, too. Both HTC-made phones are expected to have aluminum bodies with a secondary panel on the back that is either glossy plastic or glass. The back of the phones are also expected to have slightly curved edges for a more comfortable in-hand feel.

We can also see that the camera humps found on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are gone, with the rear cameras on these HTC phones being flush with their backs. The rear fingerprint reader found on the 5X and 6P is expected to return on the Sailfish and Marlin, though. We can also see a “G” Google logo and some antenna lines on the back of the device.

Moving around to the front of the device, we can see features like the earpiece, front-facing camera, and some sensors.

Also worth mentioning are the color options that are rumored to be coming with the Sailfish and Marlin. In addition to this dark gray and black model, it’s said that Google is prepping an aluminum model with a white front. It’s rumored that Google is working on an “electric blue” version with a blue back and white front, but it’s unclear if that model will actually be released to the public.

This rumored design looks nice. While the camera humps on the backs of the 5X and 6P weren’t that bad, the flat camera found on this HTC design helps it to look a bit cleaner. The lone “G” logo and lack of HTC and Nexus branding helps to kick that clean look up, but today’s report says that it’s unclear whether or not HTC and Nexus branding will appear on the final design, so don’t get too attached to this design’s lack of company tattoos.

It’s still unclear exactly when HTC’s Sailfish and Marlin Nexus phones will launch and how much they’ll cost when they do. Thanks to the rumor mill, though, we are getting a nice idea of what features they’ll have when they do. What do you think of this leaked design?
