Google will reportedly launch its own smartphone later this year

One of the highlights of Nexus devices is that Google is involved in their development, teaming up with another manufacturer to create and sell them. If a new report is true, though, we may soon see a phone that’s pure Google.

Google will reportedly launch its own-brand Android smartphone later this year, according to “a senior source” that spoke to The Telegraph. Other sources added that Google is currently in talks with wireless carriers about launching the device. Unfortunately, no details about the phone itself were given.

When it comes to working on Android hardware, Google typically partners with other manufacturers for its Nexus devices. However, El Goog did recently launch its own tablet in the Pixel C, and it’s said that it’ll launch its own Daydream VR headset, too. That suggests that Google may be getting more comfortable with the idea of launching its own hardware. A smartphone is a bigger deal than a tablet or VR headset, though, because it’s an integral device to many people’s lives and Google would likely sell more phones than it did tablets or will sell VR headsets.

Do you think Google will launch its own smartphone? If it does, will you buy one?
