Earlier this week, Instagram rolled out a brand new app icon that’s pretty different than the old one. Not everyone is feeling the new look, though. If that’s you, then you’ll be glad to hear that there’s a way to get the old icon back on your iPhone’s home screen.
Developer Juan Ramirez has put together a little trick to get the old Instagram icon back on your iPhone. To get it yourself, visit this web page on your phone and tap the “Tap Here” link near the bottom of the screen. Then add that page to your home screen by tapping the share icon in the middle of Safari’s row of tabs at the bottom of your screen.
The way this trick works is that it uses a web link to send you to Instagram site, which will cause your phone to open the Instagram app instead.
Once you’re done, you can hide the actual Instagram app and its new icon in a folder where you won’t need to look at it. While you will still see the new icon when you get incoming notifications, you’ll have the old icon front and center on your home screen.
This is a nifty trick put together by Ramirez. It might take an extra second or two to get into Instagram since the old icon has to first send you to the web and then kick you to the Instagram app, but if you really do hate the new icon, that extra little wait might be worth the trade of not having to look at the new icon on your iPhone’s home screen.
