Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro adds fingerprint reader, more RAM and storage

Xiaomi has already beefed up the Redmi 3 once, but apparently that’s not enough for the Chinese Android manufacturer.

Xiaomi today added the Redmi 3 Pro to its lineup. While it’s largely similar to the Redmi 3 in terms of specs, there are a couple of spec differences between the two that are worth noting. First of all, the Redmi 3 Pro offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, whereas the standard Redmi 3 offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both phones offer a microSD slot, though, enabling you to add more storage if you need it.

The Redmi 3 Pro also offers a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, something that the non-Pro Redmi 3 lacks.

Round out the rest of its spec list, the Redmi 3 Pro is packing a Snapdragon 616 processor, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, 5-inch 1280x720 display, and 4000mAh battery.

The Redmi 3 Pro will launch in China in April for RMB 899 ($139 USD). While the Redmi 3 Pro doesn’t offer a ton of upgrades over the standard Redmi 3, additions like a fingerprint sensor and additional RAM make it a worthwhile upgrade for folks that plan to keep their phone for an extended period of time.
