Will you "downgrade" to get Apple's new 4-inch iPhone?

Later this year, Apple is going to announce a new flagship iPhone. It’s probably going to be called the iPhone 7. The company is even rumored to change things up and call the larger variant, previously rumored as the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone Pro instead. While the naming schemes aren’t guaranteed, it’s a pretty safe bet that Apple’s going to launch two new iPhones later this year.

But, the Rumor Mill isn’t quite done there. No, it’s March, which means that Apple is probably going to have an event at some point this month. During their time on stage, Apple’s executives will discuss a lot of different things, possibly including a 9.7-inch iPad Air successor that actually takes on the iPad Pro namesake instead, but almost definitely another iPhone, too.

This one’s said to be a new 4-inch device, but not in the same way that the iPhone 5c existed. No, Apple’s not going to shirk on so many features this time around, if the rumors are true.

The iPhone SE as it’s now known, or the iPhone 5SE as it was called before, is a 4-inch iPhone that will boast an Apple A9 processor and M9 co-processor, along with NFC support for Apple Pay, Touch ID for extra security, and always-on “Hey, Siri” support for good measure. The camera is even said to be a 12-megapixel shooter, too, and the phone is said to offer support for Apple’s Live Photos.

This won’t be a slouch device, as far as features go. Sure, the processor isn’t as good as what’s coming in the iPhone 7, but it’ll run iOS 10/X/whatever easily enough (hopefully). And for anyone that has been wanting a new 4-inch smartphone, or to go back to one after switching to something else, this might be what you’ve been waiting for.

Which makes me genuinely curious, especially regarding the folks out there that might have upgraded to the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus back in 2014 with their larger displays. With a 4.7- and 5.5-inch screen, respectively, each iPhone is decidedly bigger than the 4-inch iPhone 5/5s/5c. But did you upgrade only because that was all Apple was offering, and you didn’t want to stick with an older device?

A friend of mine has an iPhone 6s, but only because he “needs” a new iPhone every year. But he doesn’t like the bigger display. At least, he likes smaller screens more. So the rumors of a new 4-inch iPhone have piqued his curiosity. But I just don’t think he’ll be able to make the change — not after using the iPhone 6 and then the iPhone 6s for so long.

Sure, he could adjust with time, I just don’t know if I can see it happening. Then again, maybe a lot of you out there are also planning on doing just this. Will you “downgrade” to the iPhone SE from your bigger iPhone if Apple does indeed launch the handset this year? Let me know!
