Samsung Galaxy S6 gets Android 6.0 beta test in the UK, screenshots show off the update

Samsung hasn’t announced when it’ll begin officially rolling out Android 6.0 to its flagship phones like the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, but if you’re in the UK and own one of those devices, you can get a taste of Marshmallow right now.

Samsung is now running an Android 6.0 beta test for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge owners in the UK. To enroll, all that you need to do is create a Samsung Account, install the Galaxy Care app from Samsung’s Galaxy Apps store, and then register for the program using the Galaxy Beta Program process. In the following 24 hours, you should get a message from Samsung if you’ve been selected to take part in the beta.

Some folks have already gotten into the beta, and because this is the internet, screenshots of Samsung’s customized version of Android 6.0 have surfaced. While there doesn’t appear to be a ton of changes from Android 5.1 at first, SamMobile has found that there are actually quite a few new features. For example, Samsung has thrown in camera tweaks like support for saving images in RAW and enabling shutter speed control in the pro camera mode. Some other new features include customizable lock screen shortcuts, nested folders, and Marshmallow-specific goodies like Google Now on Tap.

It’s worth noting again that this beta is only available to folks in the UK, and only those with the SM-920F or SM-925F versions of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, respectively. That’s kind of a bummer for the rest of us, but while we wait for Samsung’s full Android 6.0 push to begin, at least we’ve got these screenshots to satiate our Marshmallow hunger.

As for when the official Android 6.0 rollout will begin, Samsung hasn’t made any official announcements, but a push in January or February 2016 seems reasonable. Just keep in mind that if you’ve got a carrier-branded model, your update will probably take a bit longer because it’ll have to go through carrier testing, too.
