Apple unleashes iOS 9.2, watchOS 2.1, tvOS 9.1 updates

A month and a half after releasing iOS 9.1 to the general public, Apple has now unleashed the official iOS 9.2 update.

iOS 9.2 is now available to download on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update includes a number of bug fixes and a handful of new features, too. For example, the Safari View Controller, which lets third-party apps use a Safari-based browser rather than their own, got itself a couple of new features with iOS 9.2. Those include third-party Action Extensions, which let you use third-party app features (like 1Password) inside of the Safari View Controller, as well as the ability to request a desktop site and swipe from the edge to dismiss the Safari View Controller browser.

iOS 9.2 also enables AT&T NumberSync, the feature that’ll link all of your connected devices under your one phone number. This means that you can make and receive calls using devices like your Mac or iPad, but they’ll appear as though they’re coming from your iPhone.

Rounding out iOS 9.2 are Apple Music improvements, 3D Touch support in iBooks, improved stability for Safari and Podcasts, a fix for a bug that could prevent an alarm from going off when updating iOS, and several accessibility improvements.

To update your iOS device to 9.2, head into Settings > General > Software Update. While iOS 9.2 may not contain a ton of major new features to get excited about, there are a boatload of improvements and bug fixes. And isn’t a smoother, less buggy phone worth getting excited about?

Apple today also released watchOS 2.1  for the Apple Watch. This update adds support for several new system languages, including Arabic and Greek, as well as a handful of bug fixes. You can get this watchOS update by going into the Watch app on your iPhone and then selecting General > Software update.

Rounding out today’s updates is tvOS 9.1 for the new Apple TV. Included in this update are bug fixes and improvements to networking and scrolling. To download this tvOS update, fire up your Apple TV and go into System > Software Update.
