Facebook ends Creative Labs group, pulls several Android and iOS apps

Facebook has released many different Android and iOS apps outside of core offerings like Facebook and Messenger, like Snapchat competitor Slingshot and video app Riff. Now many of those apps are being killed off.

Facebook has announced that Creative Labs, the startup-style group that lived inside of Facebook and made apps like Slingshot, Rooms, and Riff, has been shut down. The decision to end Creative Labs came because Facebook has “incorporated elements of Slingshot, Riff and Rooms into the Facebook for iOS and Android apps,” the company said.

Slingshot, Rooms, and Riff have been pulled from the Android and iOS app stores. If you’re already using Rooms, it’ll stick around until December 23.

It’s not terribly surprising to see Facebook pull some of its apps, as it doesn’t seem like Slingshot, Rooms, and Riff ever really caught on. This news is probably a bummer for anyone that did use these apps with any regularity, but there may be a replacement for you to use. For example, Slingshot was all about sending photos and videos that disappeared after being viewed, which is right up Snapchat’s alley.

Did any of you ever use Slingshot, Rooms, or Riff?
