Google's Cardboard Camera app lets you capture virtual reality photos

Google Cardboard is a simple virtual reality headset that lets you use your smartphone to dive in to VR worlds created by others. Thanks to a new app from Google, though, you can create your own VR experience.

Google’s new Cardboard Camera app lets you capture a photo, complete with sound, so that you can relive a moment whenever you want. The images captured with Cardboard Camera are like 360 degree panoramas, and when viewing a photo, you can look around in all directions.

Cardboard Camera is now available to download in the Play Store. It requires a device on Android 4.4 or higher.

Modern virtual reality is slowly but surely becoming something that’s within the reach of regular consumers. Sure, there will be more expensive options out there for folks that want them, like multi-thousand dollar cameras and pricier headsets that require a full desktop computer to work. But companies like Google and Samsung are also working to make VR obtainable for people that don’t have a ton of money to spend, and that’s pretty great.
