Samsung's mobile business has a new president

J.K. Shin has been involved with Samsung’s mobile business for years now, but  today it was revealed that he’s ceding much of the day-to-day of the business to someone else.

Dongjin Koh has been named the new president of Samsung’s mobile division after spending some time as the head of Samsung’s mobile research and development team. That time included helping to develop the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5. J.K. Shin will still be head of Samsung’s mobile division as a whole, but he’ll focus more on long-term strategy and the effort to develop new growth business.

Samsung is the largest Android handset maker around, and one of the biggest players in mobile as a whole. Things haven’t been going quite as smoothly for Samsung lately, though, with market share and profits taking a bit of a hit lately thanks to competition from the likes of Apple and Samsung. Will Koh help reverse that trend? That’s probably what Samsung is hoping, especially since he helped develop a couple of the most well-reviewed Samsung smartphones in recent memory. We’ll just have to wait and see whether or not it actually happens.
