Google intros ASUS OnHub router

When Google first announced its TP-LINK-made OnHub router back in August, it said that more routers would be coming soon from other manufacturers. Today the first of those is official.

The ASUS OnHub router has been revealed by Google. Like the TP-LINK OnHub, the ASUS OnHub is a pretty plain-looking canister, though the ASUS model starts out with a large base and then tapers up to a smaller top. This plain design is used so that you can place it anywhere in your home for optimal Wi-Fi coverage.

One unique feature of the ASUS OnHub is Wave Control. With it, you wave your hand over the top of the router to “boost the Wi-Fi speed for a particular device.”

The ASUS OnHub supports speeds up to 1.9Gbps and includes a single USB 3.0 port. It’s also got 7 dual-band antennas, 1 WAN port, and 1 LAN port.

Google says that the ASUS OnHub will be available for pre-order from “select retailers” this week for $219.99. If you know you want one, you can pre-order from Newegg right now with an expected release date of November 3.

It’s also worth noting that Google will be pushing its first software update to its OnHub routers this week. The update will include performance improvements, like a smart antenna algorithm that’ll help the OnHub select the best combination of antennas to send Wi-Fi to your particular devices.
