Just a couple of days after a trio of BlackBerry Priv hands-on photos made their way online, several more images that show the keyboard-clad Android phone have surfaced.
derStandard.at has posted a hands-on report detailing the BlackBerry Priv and their first impressions with it. The phone being used is a pre-production unit, and the publication notes that this Priv “reacts quickly on any input,” but that it does stutter a bit every now and then. The UI as a whole is said to resemble vanilla Android, though BlackBerry has installed a few of its own apps, like BBM and some default app alternatives like a BlackBerry-made Contacts app.
Moving on to the hardware, the Priv is described as “pretty large,” which isn’t terribly surprising since it’s a slider phone with a 5.5-inch display. The hardware keyboard is said to feel sturdy, and the display reportedly offers “vivid colors and good contrast.” Finally, the camera is said to give a “good, but not overwhelming, impression.” It performs quickly outdoors and creates photos with good detail, but indoors the camera’s shutter speed allegedly becomes a bit slower.
Finally, today’s report includes a spec list. The Priv is said to offer a display resolution of 2560x1440, hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (22GB available to the user), a microSD slot, NFC, an 18-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. Preloaded on the Priv is Android 5.1.
On paper, the BlackBerry Priv seems like a well-specced phone, packing features that may not be super high-end but ought to be able to handle most anything that you throw at it. Based on today’s report, the phone’s performance and camera sound respectable, but because this is a preproduction unit, we’ll have to wait until the final version of the Priv is released to make any judgments about how it handles.
