What's the most important feature in your smartphone?

Before Apple announced the iPhone 6s, I was on the fence about whether or not I’d be upgrading this year. The iPhone 6 has been doing its job well enough since last year, and I thought that this year might be the first year that I don’t go out of my way to upgrade a phone that, for all intents and purposes, doesn’t really need to be upgraded.

Of course, there was always the thought in my head that I could be upgrading, if Apple swayed me. But it was never guaranteed.

Apple went through its process, announcing a lot of different things at their media event. When they finally got to the iPhone, I was practically checking out of the event as a whole. But then Apple got to the camera on the new iPhones, and I found myself paying more attention.

I don’t use my smartphone all that often these days. It’s basically a device that lets me send messages, ignore phone calls, play a few games here and there, and listen to music. Oh, and take pictures. Actually, those last two things are the main reason why I turn my phone’s display on at any given moment, it seems.

So while Apple was talking about iOS 9 earlier this year (and again in some capacity at the media event), or even things like 3D Touch (which is admittedly pretty great), nothing really sunk in for me until the company started talking about its new camera.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus come with a 12-megapixel camera, and while Apple is more than willing to sell it to you as the most amazing camera in a smartphone, that really doesn’t matter to me. Of course Apple’s going to bill the camera as amazing. What matters most to me is that I’ve been using iPhone cameras for a long time now, so I already know they do a fantastic job. So, with the improvements that Apple is making, I don’t believe I have any reason to be worried about the new camera in the new iPhone.

I wasn’t sold on the new iPhone until the camera got shown off, and now I can’t help but think another year, another iPhone.

What’s the most important feature on your smartphone these days? Was there any specific feature in the iPhone 6s announcement that convinced you to buy it, or are you planning on skipping the new phone(s)?
