Sony Xperia Z5 press images leak, show 23-megapixel rear camera

Sony is expected to reveal its new Xperia Z5 Android flagship at IFA next week, but as is usually the case, the rumor mill has started revealing info about the device ahead of time.

Xperia Blog has shared a few press images of the Xperia Z5 that are said to have recently been published by Sony’s social media team before quickly being pulled. The images show a device that looks a bit like the Xperia Z4, but with an “Xperia” engraving on the side of the unit. The shots also show that the device will have a 23-megapixel rear camera, up from the Xperia Z4’s 20.7-megapixel rear camera.

The images also show a few different color options for the Xperia Z5. There’s a white phone, a gold model, and a dark turquoise version.

While nothing is official until Sony says it is, the company kept largely the same design for its Xperia flagships over the past few years, opting to make small tweaks each year. So that’s why it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Xperia Z5 look similar to the Z4, but with small changes like the Xperia engraving shown in today’s leak.

In other Xperia news, a Facebook leak may have revealed some of the other details of Sony’s upcoming phones. The Sony Georgia page, which has since been removed, claimed that Sony will take to the IFA stage to show the Xperia Z5 Compact with a 4.6-inch 720p display, the Xperia Z5 with a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 screen, and the Xperia Z5 Premium with a 5.5-inch 4k 2160p Ultra HD display. The phones are also said to have 23-megapixel cameras, a detail that’s backed up by today’s other leak. And while the source of these leaked specs don’t appear to have come from an official Sony page, prominent leaker Evan Blass says that the line up with what he’s heard
