There are a lot of Samsung-made Android devices getting Stagefright patches right now, and it turns out that there’s a reason for that.
Samsung says that it will start fast-tracking Android security patches as soon as vulnerabilities are discovered. The first example of this is with Stagefright, with Samsung pushing out updates around a week after news of the exploit first broke. Samsung says that these security updates will be released about once per month.
Here’s what Dong Jin Koh, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Research and Development Office for Samsung’s IT & Mobile Communications, had to say about these fast-tracked updates:
“With the recent security issues, we have been rethinking the approach to getting security updates to our devices in a more timely manner. Since software is constantly exploited in new ways, developing a fast response process to deliver security patches to our devices is critical to keep them protected. We believe that this new process will vastly improve the security of our devices and will aim to provide the best mobile experience possible for our users.”
Samsung has caught some flak in the past for being a bit slow when it comes to pushing updates to its Android phones, but the company has improved as of late. Now Samsung is going to speed up its update process even further when it comes to security patches, which are important to keeping its users safe.
