Samsung Galaxy Note 5 may be announced in mid-August

Samsung has launched past versions of its flagship Galaxy Note smartphones in late August or early September, and so far many have expected that that’ll be the case again this year with the Galaxy Note 5. According to a new report, though, that won’t be the case.

One source speaking to The Wall Street Journal claims that Samsung has opted to move its Galaxy Note 5 announcement up to mid-August in order to give the device more time in the spotlight before Apple announces its new iPhone models. While Apple has moved around its iPhone announce window a couple of times in the product’s lifespan, the past few versions have been introduced in mid-September.

Past reports have claimed that the Galaxy Note 5 will feature a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 display and Samsung-made Exynos 7422 processor.

While the Galaxy Note phones are some of the biggest and most popular in mobile, it’s still difficult for them to compete with the attention that new iPhone hardware gets. Moving the debut of the Note 5 up a few weeks ought to get the phone a bit more time to itself in the news cycle, though by that point there will probably be some iPhone hype to contend with. Regardless, I know most of us probably won’t mind getting to see Samsung’s new Galaxy Note a few weeks earlier than normal, so here’s to hoping that today’s rumor is legit.
