Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview update to build 10149 rolling out

Windows 10 Mobile testers, it’s time to update.

Microsoft is now pushing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build 10149, an update from the last build 10136 update that MS pushed out. The good news is that unlike build 10136, which required testers to revert to Windows Phone 8.1 to update, you can just go directly from build 10080 to build 10149 without reverting.

One thing that build 10149 that does have in common with 10136 is that the update is missing its post-upgrade migration status screen. That means that after updating, your phone’s lock screen will appear frozen and without the date and time for up to 10 minutes. You need to leave the phone alone during this time, because if you mess with the phone while it’s migrating, you’ll end up “in a funky state.”

So what’s new in build 10149? According to Microsoft, the update brings branding for its new Edge browser, an address bar at the bottom of Edge, general user experience improvements, an updated Photos app, Cortana enhancements, and more.

While this is still an early preview, Microsoft says that it’s found this update to be “faster, more stabile, and more polished” than previous builds, which is exciting to hear if you’re testing Windows 10 Mobile. To check for this update, head into Settings > Update & security > Phone update.
