AT&T Galaxy S6 active finally official, will launch June 12

After a multitude of leaks, some of which came from Samsung itself, the Galaxy S6 active has finally been announced by AT&T.

As expected, the Galaxy S6 active is indeed a ruggedized version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S6. The GS6 active’s body meets MIL-STD-810G for shock resistance and is IP68-rated for being water resistant and dustproof. All of that will make the phone considerably more rugged than the regular GS6 and its glass-covered body. The GS6 active also includes Activity Zone, which will help you quickly jump to information like Weather, S Health, and Compass.

Once you get past that toughened exterior, the Galaxy S6 active is basically a Galaxy S6. The GS6 active features a 5.1-inch 2560x1440 display, octa-core Samsung processor, 32GB of storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. There is one notable spec difference between the GS6 and GS6 active, though: the battery. While the Galaxy S6 has a 2550mAh battery, the GS6 active's got a massive 3500mAh juice pack. Also included with the GS6 active is support for fast charging and wireless charging.

The Galaxy S6 active will launch at AT&T on June 12, and it’ll be available in Camo White, Camo Blue, and Gray color options. Pricing will be set at $0 down and 30 payments of $23.17 with AT&T Next 24, 24 payments of $28.96 on AT&T Next 18, or 20 payments of $34.75 with AT&T Next 12. You’ll also be able to get the device for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

While the Galaxy S6 is one of Samsung’s best-designed phones to date, its two slabs of glass don’t necessarily make for a device that you’d want to take on your next outdoor adventure. That’s where the Galaxy S6 active comes in, offering a shockproof, dustproof, and water resistant body that ought to stand up to most of what you throw at it. And the good news is that it’s just as highly-specced as the Galaxy S6, so you don’t have to trade performance for toughness.
