Nexus Player receives $20 discount in the Google Store

Last week, Sling TV launched a deal that would get you a Nexus Player for half off when you pre-pay for three months of Sling TV service. If you’d rather just save some cash without ponying up for three months of Sling TV, though, Google is happy to help.

The Nexus Player is now available with a $20 discount in the Google Store. That means that rather than costing you $99, Google’s Android TV set-top box will set you back $79. Purchases also include free shipping.

The set-top box wars have heated up quite a bit in recent years, with offerings from Roku, Amazon, Apple, Google, and more all entering the market. And while the Nexus Player is a nice little Android TV box, it’s facing stiff competition from similar boxes that are a bit cheaper, like the $70 Roku 2 and the $69 Apple TV. It’s nice to see Google offer a discount on the Nexus Player, making it a more interesting option for folks in the market for a streaming box, but it’s worth noting that it’s unclear how long this discount while last, so you might want to take advantage of it as soon as possible if you’re interested in plopping a Nexus Player beneath your TV.

How many of you own a Nexus Player?
