Amazon Fire phone on sale again, available for $179 unlocked

The Amazon Fire phone is on sale once again.

Amazon is selling its Fire phone for $179 without a commitment, which is a full $270 off of the device’s normal asking price. Included in the phone’s $179 price tag is one year of Amazon Prime, which would normally run you $99. Besides free two-day shipping, an Amazon Prime membership will get you unlimited photo storage, streaming access to “more than a million songs,” 30-minute early access to some Lightning Deals, streaming of free TV shows and movies, and more.

As a quick refresher, the Amazon Fire phone features a 4.7-inch 1280x720 display and 2.1-megapixel camera on its face, as well as a set of Dynamic Perspective sensors that’ll let you tilt through the phone’s user interface and scroll through web pages. Also included with the Fire phone is a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS and an f/2.0 aperture lens, 32GB of storage, 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2400mAh battery, and support for AT&T, T-Mobile, and other GSM networks.

Earlier this month, Amazon updated the Fire phone to Fire OS 4.6.1, which includes a bump to Android 4.4 KitKat. Also included that update were a number of device improvements, including the ability to change the home screen wallpaper and support for Bluetooth Low Energy. While the Amazon Fire phone obviously isn’t super high-end, it’s not a bad phone for its $179 unlocked price tag, especially if you were planning on ponying up $99 for a year of Amazon Prime anyway.
