Windows 10 for phones won't arrive this summer

Microsoft previously said that Windows 10 will arrive in the summer, giving some folks hope that they’ll have the full version of W10 on their handsets during that time. However, the folks from Redmond revealed today that that won’t be the case.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore said that internal builds of Windows 10 for the phone aren’t as far along as those for the PC. Belfiore went on to admit that Microsoft’s main focus is to launch Windows 10 on the PC first and other products later. “From the device view, our main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC. You Should expect that the other devices — phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub — will be staggered, probably not on the same date as the PC.”

We’ve seen two Windows 10 for phone preview releases to date, and they’re clearly early builds. That’s no surprise since Microsoft markets them as such, but it also shows that Windows 10 has a ways to go before it’ll be ready for the general public. Now that we know that Windows 10 won’t arrive in the summer, we can set our sights on the fall. That way Microsoft can get Windows 10 for phones onto new hardware and get ready for the holiday season.
