ZTE Spro 2 is a projector/hotspot that runs Android, and it's hitting AT&T on Friday

Remember ZTE’s unusual Spro 2 mobile hotspot/projector that’s powered by Android? Well after announcing its intention to sell the device back several months ago, AT&T has come forward with its launch plans for the unique device.

The ZTE Spro 2 will launch at AT&T on April 24 at a price of $399.99 without a two-year contract. If you’d prefer to go the contract-free route, you can pony up $499.99 to avoid a commitment. Once you’ve got your unit, you can add it to your AT&T Mobile Share Value shared data plan for $10 per month.

So yeah, the ZTE Spro 2 is capable of projecting an image ranging from 5 inches to 120 inches in size with a native resolution of 1280x720. It’s also got auto focus and a 200 lumen brightness.

The other major feature of the Spro 2 is its mobile hotspot capability, which will let you connect up to 8 devices to AT&T’s 4G LTE network simultaneously.

The Spro 2 runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat on a 5-inch 1280x820 display, and it’s got full access to the Google Play store to let you download any apps that you’d like. The unit is powered by a 2.1GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and a 6300mAh battery, and it’s also got 16GB of storage, microSD card support, and 2GB of RAM.

Devices with built-in projectors aren’t something that we often see in the mobile world, but if you’ve got a need to beam content onto a wall on a regular basis, the Spro 2 is one way to do that while also keeping both it and your other devices online. And while the Spro 2 may be a bit pricier than other mobile hotspots, it’s affordable for a projector
