HTC One M9 update to bring camera improvements

When the HTC One M9 was announced, there was a lot of focus on its camera, which had been switched from an 4-megapixel UltraPixel sensor on the One M8 to a more traditional 20-megapixel sensor. However, some reviews found the One M9’s new shooter to be less than stellar. The good news for any current or would-be One M9 owners is that HTC is going to try and improve the One M9’s shooter.

Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, has confirmed that a software update that includes camera improvements will roll out to the One M9 on either April 10 or April 17, depending on which carrier you’re on. According to Phandroid, Sprint One M9 models will get the update tomorrow (April 10) and Verizon One M9s will be preloaded with the update when they go on sale tomorrow. Meanwhile, the AT&T One M9 will reportedly get the update next week. As for the T-Mobile One M9, some owners are reporting that they’re getting an update to version 1.25.531.33 right now.

The One M9 is HTC’s new flagship smartphone for 2015, and the 20-megapixel is one of the device’s major new features, so it’s no surprise to hear that HTC is pushing an update to try and improve its performance. Whether or not it actually offers any marked improvement remains to be seen, but if you’d previously shunned the One M9 over reports of its camera performance, it may be worth it to keep an eye on this update as it rolls out to existing users.
