Google offers Project Tango for half off to some before broadening sales

After launching to select developers for a cool $1024, Google’s Project Tango tablet is getting a price cut, at least for some.

Google is sending emails out to some folks that includes an offer to buy the Project Tango tablet for $512, half of the original asking price. Interestingly, Google says that it’s “opening up sales more broadly,” so now is the last opportunity for those with invitations to buy the tablet that’s been reserved for them.

So what does “opening up sales more broadly” mean? Well, it could be a few different things. Google may simply be planning to invite more folks to buy the 3D-mapping Tango tablet, or it could be planning to begin sending invitations internationally. Tango is currently available in the U.S., and Google’s email says that international availability is “coming soon.” It could also mean that Google is planning to open online sales up to anyone without an invitation, though Tango may be a bit of a tough sell for most of us non-developers, even if it were offered at its discounted price.

If you had the opportunity to buy a Project Tango tablet, would you do it?
