Facebook Riff wants you to record videos with your friends, now on Android and iOS

Another day, another new app from Facebook.

Today Facebook released an app called “Riff,” an app for making videos with your friends. The app works by you uploading a video and saying what it’s about. Anyone can see that video, but only your friends can add to it, and then friends of those friends can add to it too. Videos can be up to 20 seconds long. Your videos will live in Riff and can be viewed by anyone using it, but you can also share the clips to straight-up Facebook if you’d like.

There have been a lot of new takes on video in mobile lately, with Vine, Instagram, Snapchat, and more all offering their own ways to record and share clips on your smartphone. With Riff, Facebook appears to be hoping that people will use its app with the goal of becoming viral. Zuckerberg and Co. will have to convince users to use Riff for making and consuming videos, though, especially with apps like Snapchat that are considerably more established.

Facebook Riff is now available for Android and iOS. If you download the app, be sure to share your first impressions with us!
