ZTE Nubia N9 Mini and N9 Max debut with 16-megapixel cameras, Android 5.0

ZTE’s Nubia family of Android smartphones has gained two new members, one “mini” and one “max.”

The ZTE Nubia N9 Mini and Nubia N9 Max were recently announced in China. As you might’ve guessed from their names, one of these new phones has a “smaller” screen size while the other is a bit larger. Here’s how big each model is, along with all of their other spec details:

ZTE Nubia N9 Mini

  • 5-inch 1920x1080 IPS display
  • 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor
  • 16-megapixel rear, 8-megapixel front cameras
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage, microSD card slot
  • 2900mAh battery
  • 141.3 x 69.8 x 8.2mm
  • 3G/4G connectivity
  • Android 5.0 with ZTE’s Nubia UI v2.8

ZTE Nubia N9 Max

  • 5.5-inch 1920x1080 IPS display
  • Octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor
  • 16-megapixel rear, 8-megapixel front cameras
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage, microSD card slot
  • 2900mAh battery
  • 154.8 x 76.6 x 7.9mm
  • 3G/4G connectivity
  • Android 5.0 with ZTE Nubia UI v2.8

One other thing to note about these two new ZTE phones is that the Nubia N9 Max has a mirrored glass backside, while the N9 Mini has a plastic backside that can be replaced with different materials, like wood and denim. However, they’ve both got a metal frame around their outer edges.

Unsurprisingly, the Nubia N9 Mini is going to be the cheaper of the two phones, with an expected price tag of 1499 Yuan ($241 USD). The bigger Nubia N9 Max is slated to cost 2499 Yuan ($402 USD).

These two Nubia smartphones look like well-made Android devices, and they’re pretty nicely priced considering their specs. I’m not sure that the Nubia N9 Mini is really quite “mini” enough with a 5-inch display, but it could be a nice fit for folks that want a mid-sized phone. Unfortunately, there’s no word on when or if these new Nubias will be released outside of China, so those of us outside of the country may never get the opportunity to buy either of them.
