After launching the 4.85mm-thick R5 last year, Oppo appears to have turned its focus from making a super-thin phone to eliminating side bezels.
Images and a video of a new Oppo smartphone have been leaked to several Chinese publications, showing an Android device with crazy thin side bezels. Little is known about the phone besides what we can glean from the images, but it’s been discovered that Oppo recently filed for a patent for a method of refracting light to make a display panel appear to not have bezels.
There’s no word on when this near bezel-free phone will be released, but you can bet that Oppo is going to trumpet its arrival when the device does launch. The slim bezel look is definitely attractive, making you feel like you’re just holding a piece of glass and helping to better immerse you in the content that you’re viewing. Of course, the concerns that come with a nearly bezel-free design is how usable the device will be and how well it’ll be able to ignore unwanted touches.
