Softcard apps — including Windows Phone — will be terminated after March 31

Late last month we learned that following Google’s acquisition of Softcard’s mobile payment technology, the Softcard apps would be getting terminated. At the time, there was no word on exactly when the Softcard apps would disappear, but now the end date has been revealed.

Softcard has revealed that all of its apps — including the Windows Phone app — will stop working after March 31. After that date, all Softcard accounts will be closed.

Softcard recommends that once its apps are terminated, users switch over Google Wallet. The issue is that there’s no Google Wallet app for Windows Phone, so once the Softcard app for WP gets killed off, Windows Phone users are going to lose a big mobile payment solution. It’s unclear if Google will ever release a Google Wallet app for Windows Phone to make up for the lack of a Softcard app, but considering Google and Microsoft’s bumpy past, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a Windows Phone version of Google Wallet.
