SanDisk reveals 200GB microSD card, says it'll launch in Q2 2015

Thought 128GB microSD cards are big? You ain’t seen nothing.

SanDisk today revealed a microSDXC card with a whopping 200GB of storage. The 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card, Premium Edition (that’s a mouthful) is the same size as any other microSD card, it’s just got a lot more storage. SanDisk says that it was able to stuff that many gigabytes into this tiny card by using a new production process that allows for more bits to be placed on a die.

The 200GB microSDXC card has a transfer speed of up to 90MB/second. SanDisk says that it’ll go on sale around the globe in Q2 with an MSRP of $399.99. That’s definitely not cheap, but large capacity memory formats rarely are when they’re first released. The good news is that we should see that price go down a bit after its launch; for example, SanDisk’s 128GB card launched with an asking price of $199.99, but it’s now available for $99.99.

Will you be buying this 200GB microSD card when it becomes available?
